Working across painting, fibre and mixed media, Olivia’s practice is rooted in the landscapes and creatures of her childhood; the owls, butterflies, kingfishers, wrens and eucalypts while exploring the interests of her inner world; magic, mythology and spiritual practice.

Olivia’s chosen mediums and background in textile design remain central to how she creates. Painting, drawing and writing are means of expression, while working with textiles is an important connection to what is historically feminine work. Each act of creation is intentionally slow. Artworks evolving stroke by stroke, stitch by stitch, meditation like, allowing Olivia to attend the moment and world long enough to find the beauty in its mystery.

Olivia’s work asks questions rather than provides answers, about the strangeness of consciousness and where the human world ends and the spiritual begins. Her intention is for viewers to encounter that quality of awe one feels when the ordinary suddenly feels ancient and alive.
